It was my son's birthday last week and he requested burgers. We were hosting his friends on Sunday night and I decided to try the Madras Beef Burger recipe before the party.
You need to prepare these burgers ahead of time by mixing the Madras Paste and other ingredients with the ground beef. This will enhance the flavour and give a kick to your burgers. My other son volunteered to try the burgers. I served them on Naan bread with lettuce, cucumber, cheese, a pineapple slice and some Major Grey Chutney. After the first bite he said that it was delicious and after the second he said: mom you will make these again, hein? And I did at the party and it was a hit. These burgers are so moist and tender. The recipe calls for breadcrumbs but I like to use oats instead.
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 small onion, diced
140 ml Patak's Madras Paste
500g lean ground beef
12 mint leaves, finely chopped
1 large egg
2 tbsps breadcrumbs
Patak's Major Grey Chutney
Swiss Cheese slices
2 large pieces of Naan bread
1- In a bowl combine Madras Paste with the beef, breadcrumbs, egg and mint. Mix well, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and marinate in the refrigerator for at least one hour and up to 24 hours.
2- Form patties to preferred size and place them on the BBQ over medium-high heat. Cook until you reach a safe temperature. Top each burgers with a piece of cheese.
3- Place the pineapples on the grill and heat for couple minutes. If you wish you can also heat the Naan bread on the BBQ.
4- Serve each burgers in Naan bread, top with a pineapple ring and one tbsp Major Grey Chutney. You can add lettuce and cucumbers to your burger also.
