Weekend Links

HEALTHY SNACK:
I told you before about my love for peanut butter. I'm following a french blog, La Testeuse, and she featured a recipe for Chocolate and Peanut Butter Truffles. They look amazing, and I can't wait to try them. You can use google translate to translate from french to english if you wish to try the recipe.

Last Monday I decided to spend the day at Major's Hill Park to take pictures of the tulips. We have over a million tulips in the National Capital Region, in 50 varieties. It was a relaxing day to stroll along this beautiful area. I like to walk around and admire the various colours and views.

Here's a link to some of my pictures on Flickr.

LIFE:
This weekend I will be walking the 10k with my son at the Ottawa Marathon. My sister and brother will also be running. The reason I'm walking is that I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my knee. The specialist does not want me to run. Since it is a degenerative disease there is not much I can do about it. I can't wait to participate but I'm nervous because I know that it will not be easy on my knee.

Some of you may know that I have been a volunteer at my local food bank for years. On Wednesday, I visited the Ottawa Food Bank, where they talked about their Community Harvest Program. One part of the program is that they grow their own crops specifically for donations. They have a new, seven-acre site at Black Family Farm and they need volunteers. BREAKFAST:
When I wake up I'm always hungry. I have been eating toasts with peanut butter for years but since I've discovered Overnight Oats I try to make it couple times a week. The recipe I'm using at the moment is from Oh She Glows. It's easy to make and I like to top my oats with raspberries in the morning. It's filling!

DIPS:
It's getting nice and warm in Ottawa, which means that we will finally be using the ''la terrasse'' (our backyard). It's always nice to sit down at the end of the day with a glass of white wine and appetizers. I think that this Light Smoked Salmon dip from Imagelicious will be delicious. Can't wait to make it!

DRINKS:
I like to try different kinds of white wine and also Craft Beers. When I go to the LCBO store,I try to buy a variety of beers to try. While I was perusing the Food Bloggers of Canada, I discovered that the first guide, The Ontario Craft Beer Guide, has been written by Robin Leblanc and Jordan St. John. There's a link to download the guide for your kindle.

SALADS:
We all know Julia Child. I love a good Salad Niçoise in the summer, it's one of my favorites! It's packed with protein and a variety of vegetables. For a vegetarian version substitute the tuna with lentils. Watch Julia Child on YouTube making this delicious recipe.

This Artichoke Hearts & Orzo Salad is also very good and you can bring it to potlucks this summer.

Have a great weekend!
