Dark Chocolate Ginger Loaf

When I was young going to watch a movie in a theater was a luxury. Either we were too busy on the farm or we did not have the money. I have never been to a movie with my parents. They simply did not have the time to come with us. I remember going with my cousin or my sister. I was so excited the first time I was allowed to go when I was 13 yrs old. I had saved the money for the movie and to buy one treat. I could not resist to buy a bag of popcorn. My sister wanted a chocolate bar. The experience was surreal to me, I was finally watching a movie on a big screen. When I bought my first car, at 18 yrs old, I could drive myself to town and went more often. Years have passed and I still like the feeling of watching a movie in a theater, instead of at home.

If you ask me: what is your favorite movie? I would say that there are too many to name them all. But there is one that I really enjoyed, it's Slumdog Millionnaire. One of my dreams is to visit India, that is why I could not wait to watch this movie. Jamal, that eighteen year-old orphan, is so adorable. I like the fact that this movie was filmed in India.

Once in a while we do a Movie night at home. We make ourselves comfortable and we fill the coffee table with snacks and drinks. I still love popcorn but also like a little sweet treat to satisfy my chocolate cravings.

I decided to make a Dark Chocolate Ginger Loaf. You might be surprised that there is Major Grey chutney in my recipe. My loaf is super moist and addictive. I am going to experience more with this chutney in my desserts because I was pleasantly surprised with the results.


125 ml + 30 ml all-purpose flour
125 ml brown sugar
125 ml coffee
60 ml butter, melted
60 ml Major Grey Chutney
100g Dark Chocolate with Crystallized Ginger pieces
50g Dark Chocolate, broken into pieces
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking soda

-Preheat oven to 350F. Line a 8x4 loaf pan with parchment paper.
-Melt butter and 100g Dark Chocolate with Crystallized ginger pieces in the microwave.
-Add brown sugar to the chocolate mixture and mix with a fork. Add coffee and Major Grey Chutney. Mix well.
-Add egg and mix with a fork.
-Add flour and baking soda. Mix until well incorporated. Gently fold 50g of dark chocolate.
-Pour the batter into loaf pan. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes. Let rest at room temperature for 1 hour before serving.

Please note that if you don't like Dark Chocolate with Crystallized Ginger Pieces you can replace it with the same amount of Dark Chocolate.
